The solid wood construction NOVATOP was examined by fire!

Fire tests of vertical wall structures NOVATOP building systems were accredited in a Slovak laboratory society Fires Ltd. (31. 5. – 2. 6. 2010).

1. External wall NOVATOP SOLID 84mm with a mineral isolation and a facade rendering.

Results : REI 120min !

2. Carrying wall NOVATOP SOLID 84mm, coated by gypsum plate Fermacell.

Results : REI 60min !

3. Wall NOVATOP SOLID 84mm in the visible quality*

Results : REI 45min !

Fire tests had very good results which exceeded the assumptions and push the massive wooden structure NOVATOP high above the required framework. NOVATOP opens the gate to the construction of residential and industrial properties inc. buildings with increased demands on fire safety, such as schools or hospitals.

* All the known details of the behavior of structures NOVATOP during the fire charge is an important basis for the calculation of other constructive solutions. We will inform you continuously about the advancing aplications.

The tests were done in two samples, both of them were tested on vertical charge. That was a regular procedure where the fire resistance caracteristics REI were specified. It´s interesting to mention the NOVATOP composition with fibreboards facade isolation, which caught fire and although a few tens of minutes, the whole red-hot, but also served as a shield and has an amazing resilience of 120 minutes. More interesting was the behavior of the net panel NOVATOP with no added layers. During the fire, we were able to see by an aperture a „crust” of carbonisated wood which was forming typical cubes. Based on the simplified rules for the combustion process of wood, which says that 1 mm burns approximately one minute, expecting resistance for around 80 minutes. This assumption is filled almost exactly. The official evaluation will be the subject of a report on the fire test and subsequent processing of the CCA above (the classification of fire resistance).

2. Facade Basalt wool: thickness = 100 mm; q = 100 kg/m3; l = 0,043 W/mK

3. NOVATOP Solid: thickness = 84 mm

4. Gypsum fibrous panel: thickness = 10 mm; q = 1000-1250 kg/m3; lR = 0,32 W/mK (Fermacell)

Construciton load: 20 kN/m

Fire load side: unknown – symmetrical composition

Total panel thickness: 104mm

Composition of the panel:

1. Gypsum fibrous panel: thickness = 10 mm; q = 1000-1250 kg/m3; lR = 0,32 W/mK (Fermacell)

2. NOVATOP Solid: thickness = 84 mm

3. Gypsum fibrous panel: thickness = 0 mm; q = 1000-1250 kg/m3; lR = 0,32 W/mK (Fermacell)
